Jan Bear is a Santa Fe native who works as an orthopaedic surgeon. In his practice, he believes that you need to role model fitness and his favorite form of exercise is cycling. He is an avid racer. Some of his accomplishments include completing both 100 mile Leadville races under 9 hours on the bike and under 25 hours in the run, he has also earned the coveted 1000 mile belt buckle for 10 time finishers of the Leadville Trail 100 Mountain Bike Race. He is in the Leadman family finishing all five Leadville Races in a single summer(50 and 100 mile mountain bike races 6, 26 and 100 mile runs). Other accomplishments include a 10th place finish in the solo division in the 2000 24 Hours of Moab Mountain Bike Race, twenty top 10 age group finishes in the Mt. Taylor Winter Quadrathon, and 3rd place in age group at La Ruta de Los Conquistadores the toughest mountain bike race on the planet in Costa Rica in 2000.
